Current and Past Engagements

  • Poon Lab Research Assistant

    June 2022 - now

Collaborating with researchers at the Stanford Integrated Biomedical System Lab.

My main role in the lab is to re-design an existing chip topology to be more customizable and compatible with a wider variety of biosensors.

  • Certified Personal Trainer

    September 2023 - now

I received my ISSA Personal Trainer certification in August 2023 and have been employed at Stanford Recreation & Wellness since September 2023. I also received an ISSA Nutritionist certification in December 2023. As part of my role, I

    • design and implement personalized fitness plans to meet clients' specific health and fitness goals.

    • conduct one-on-one and group training sessions, providing motivation and expert guidance.

    • assess clients' physical abilities, fitness levels, and dietary needs.

    • monitor clients' progress, adjusting programs as necessary to ensure continuous improvement.

    • educate clients on proper exercise techniques, injury prevention, and healthy lifestyle choices.

  • Viam Robotics SLAM Summer Intern

    June 2023 - August 2023

10 week summer internship at Viam, a robotics software startup in NYC founded by Eliot Horowitz (ex-founder of Mongo DB).

SLAM stands for Simultaneous Localization and Mapping. As a SWE intern on the team, I work on multiple projects that involve making changes to their open-source codebase. My projects were:

    • Improving the speed and efficiency of the SLAM WebUI, by preventing it from reloading maps when in localization mode

    • Developing a POC for IMU integration into Viam-cartographer

    • Writing a proposal implementation document for the aforementioned IMU integration

    • Implementing the new feature

    • Concurrently, I worked on a personal side project that integrated the Doublepoint Touch SDK with Viam.

  • IRIS Lab Research Assistant

    January 2022 - January 2023

Worked together with PhD candidate Suraj Nair to develop a novel goal-conditioned reinforcement learning algorithm. As part of this project, I programmed in python using PyTorch and accumulated over 200 hours of ML model training.

  • Stanford Food Institute Intern

    September 2022 - September2023

My internship at the SFI spanned academic year 2022/23 and involved getting a behind-the-scenes look at Stanford’s dining enterprises. As part of the internship, I worked on an individual Impact Project: increasing student consumption of whole grains.

  • Stanford Recreation & Wellness Membership Services Associate

    June 2022 - June 2023

As an MSA, I oversee daily operations of the Stanford fitness and recreation facilities. This includes managing equipment, addressing customer questions and concerns, and overseeing safety within the facilities.

  • TUM High School Research Intern

In summer 2020, Prof. Sandra Hirche accepted me into her research lab (TUM Chair of Information-oriented Control) as an unpaid summer intern, after I emailed her with a copy of my resume and a message conveying my strong desire to join her group.

During this internship, I created a Python implementation of the novel Gaussian process regression approach proposed in “Real-Time Regression with Dividing Local Gaussian Processes” by Armin Lederer et al., a PhD candidate in the lab (result pictured). I also attended the 21. IFAC World Congress.

Past Experiences

  • health{hacks} Hackathon

In June 2022, I participated in the 2022 health{hacks} healthcare hackathon at Stanford Research Park.

During this 36 hour event, my team and I produced a functional prototype for an AI personal trainer utilizing Google MediaPipe and AWS SageMaker. Additionally, we created a pitch deck and presented both to a panel of judges, winning a $15,000 AWS credit prize.

  • Customer Service

Summer 2022 I learned what it is like to work in gastronomy.

For four months, I helped out in the beer garden / hotel / restaurant “Die Post”, performing various duties as needed. Sometimes that meant greeting customers at the door, ensuring COVID protocols were being adhered to, serving drinks, cleaning tables, serving breakfast for hotel guests, and sometimes polishing silverware.

  • Licensed DBB Basketball Referee

The DBB is the German Basketball Association. I completed my Level E and then Level D licenses.

  • Ski Instructor

I learned to ski at Christian’s Ski- und Snowboardschule starting at age 3. By the time I was 12, I was helping out in classes - following along at the end and picking up kids that fell. At 14, I taught my own group of beginners, and at 16, I was finally old enough to get an official ski instructing license and teach older groups and private lessons.
